History of the Education Foundation
The Education Foundation was founded in 1996 by members of the communities served by the Berea City School District. Founding members were Norma Andrisek,
William Bornhauser, Nancy Braford, Mark Comstock, Joan Corrigan, Neal Hesche,
Richard Kren, R. Terry Krivak, Jean Snow, Bernardine Spina and Eloise Tressel.
The Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization. It began with an anonymous $100,000 donation earmarked for scholarships. Since then, the Foundation has expanded its offerings to include funding for several
grant programs for students and staff members.
The Foundation manages the funds for more than 25 scholarships each year, plus awards a number of grants, including the Employee Payroll Deduction Grants and The Education Foundation Enrichment Grants. Since it's inception, The Education Foundation has awarded over $400,000 in grants and scholarships.
Beginning in 2000, the major fundraiser has been the Foundation Auction, which is held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Middleburg Heights every March. The Foundation also accepts donations from individuals, organizations and businesses.
