Also, because there are a number of students in the ExtendEd program with special needs they talked about disability awareness and gained a new understanding of how to help and be kind to people with disabilities.
In addition, the students explored their own families and identified and celebrated the differences within their extended care group. They discussed how families can be made up of different members - single parents, grandparents as parents, two moms, two dads, mother and father, etc. - but, according to Spittal, "the children learned that the one thing everyone has in common is the love families share with one another."
"Celebrating Our Differences" is a wonderful example of the enhancement program that supports the Education Foundation's mission of investing in the students of the Berea School District.
Enrichment Grants are awarded annually through the Education Foundation.
