Leroy has been the Reverend of the People's Community Church of Berea since 1975. He and his wife Elaine have four children. In his free time, Leroy likes to go fishing in the Waccamaw River in South Carolina. He also describes himself as an avid biker because he enjoys cross-country and road biking.
Leroy McCreary is a very active member of the Berea community. He has held various leadership positions such as: President of the International Council of Community Churches, Chairman of the Southwest Community Health System, an elected member of the School Board, and Board Chair and President of the North End Foundation of Berea, among others.
When a position was needed for a new Education Foundation trustee, Leroy submitted his resume through the encouragement of former trustee Bishop Gregory Palmer. After serving many years as a trustee, Leroy is glad his friend Gregory had encouraged him to apply because he has had a great experience.
The most significant thing Leroy has done for The Education Foundation is donating. He and his wife are very proud of the students in the Berea City School district, and they believe that donating is the best way to help enrich the educational experiences in the BCSD schools or assist students in their pursuit of higher education.
Leroy says The Education Foundation is the key of future success of many of the students in the Berea City School District. Without the aid Leroy received 40 years ago from an educational institution, he would not have been able to continue his education. So, from personal experience, he knows just how important it is to provide students with grants and scholarships.
Thank you Leroy for your continued and unwavering support to the students in our communities!
