Dean Kelly Scholarship
Background: Dean Kelly served as an administrator in the Berea City School District from 1957 through 1983. During his tenure in Berea, he earned his doctorate from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Kelly always had a keen interest in instruction and research. He has been credited with developing and implementing the first K-12 Parent Conferencing model, the elementary school library program, a community service program for all high school students as a graduation requirement and a competency testing program for graduation which provided assurance classes for students who lacked the skills to succeed. Dr. Kelly also worked with staff on an outdoor education curriculum. He developed a curriculum review process which placed the total curriculum in a review process and allowed for the updating of all areas of the curriculum. Curriculum committees were formed with teachers and administrators who were outstanding in their subject-area knowledge and their ability to work with students to assure that all areas of the curriculum met the needs of Berea City School District students. Dr. Kelly was the consummate teacher and administrator. He was a true educator.

- Student must have made a substantial contribution to the high school/community.
- Student must intend to enter the field of education.
