Spring Payroll Deduction Grants Awarded

Camp Mi-Bro-Be: $1000
Len Muni, Middleburg Heights Junior High
Camp Mi-Bro-Be is a residential outdoor education program for 6th graders. Under the supervision of teachers, BMHS students serve as counselors for the week-long program. This grant will help provide T-shirts and caps for the BMHS student counselors.

Practice Makes Perfect: $420
Brigid Leamon, Grindstone Elementary
This grant will provide speech therapy students with the Practice Makes Perfect Multimodality Home Speech Therapy program. The program is designed to enhance literacy skills by correcting speech sound errors both at home and school. Since accurate speech sound production is the foundation of early literacy skills, parents can play an important role in improving their child’s academic success.

STEM Table Tubs: $500
Tami Arthur & Erin Blatnica, Grindstone Elementary
STEM Table Tubs will introduce our youngest elementary students to a variety of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics problem solving activities beginning in kindergarten. Students will learn how to share, take turns, and work together through verbal communication while developing their own problem solving skills.

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination): $480
Kelly Baumgartner, Berea-Midpark High School
AVID is a college readiness program for students who will typically be the first in their families to attend college. The program is offered to students beginning in 9th grade and culminates in special banquet at the end of Senior year. The grant will help fund the banquet for graduating seniors as well as AVID program materials and supplies.
